Fraud Alert: Emails Impersonating Public Officials
The Village of Baldwin is warning the public of fraudulent emails being circulated claiming to be from the “Village of Baldwin Planning & Zoning Commission.” These scammers are impersonating public officials and requesting payment through wire transfer for permit or application-related fees.
These emails are NOT legitimate and are part of an apparent scam attempt.
This is the most recent scam attempt identified by law enforcement. However, scammers may use variations that falsely represent the Village of Baldwin or other local government agencies. Be aware that these scams may occur through phone calls, emails, text messages, or mailed documents.
Protect yourself
If you receive requests for immediate wire transfer payments, are pressured to complete payment quickly from suspicious or unofficial email addresses or receive a request for proof of payment that is inconsistent with official Village procedures.
Verify directly through official Village contact information before sending money or personal information.
